CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Coming off a devastating loss to Syracuse on Feb. 26, Virginia Tech (2-6, 0-3 ACC) was unable to redeem itself against Boston College (3-3, 2-3 ACC) and was handed a 5-2 loss.

Early on, promise showed for the Hokies with the first doubles match ending in a 6-1 win for duo Annie Clark and Nina Sorkin. The match was quickly tied up as Boston College took court two with a 6-1 win from Laura Lopez and Marice Aguiar. The gridlock for the doubles point was settled after a close matchup on court one that resulted in a 6-4 Eagles victory.

As Boston College headed into singles with a 1-0 lead, the Hokies were looking to put a point on the board, but instead found themselves down with another loss to start the singles round. For reasons unknown at this time, Tech’s Rita Pinto was unable to finish the match on court three and the Eagles’ Nataha Irani won by retirement. The match was marked as incomplete and the score moved to 2-0, Eagles.

Tech again found no luck as court four finished with a 6-4 and 6-2 loss for Sorkin. Freshman Tamara Barad Itzhaki continued Tech's losing streak with a 6-3 and 6-4 drop to Yufei Long. The match win was set for Boston College.

The Hokies grabbed their first point of the match from Nika Kozar after a comeback win. Kozar finished the first set 6-0 to Kylie Wilcox and another Eagles win seemed to be looming on the horizon. Kozar was determined to make up for the loss and notched a 6-3 win to force a third set. In the third set, after a close matchup, Kozar found redemption with a 7-6 victory to give the Hokies some life.

Boston College racked up another win on court five from Lopez, but not without a fight from Elizabet Danailova. Danilova forced a third set after coming back 7-6 in the second, but was unable to seal the deal in the third, falling 10-8.

For the final match, the Hokies added to their score with a 7-5, 7-6 win by Shene Disbergen to earn their second point of the match, though Boston College was victorious, 5-2.

This is the Hokies’ third consecutive loss and they will seek to turn the course of their season around on March 5 against Louisville at home.
