With her family in attendance for the first time in her Virginia Tech career, Georgia Amoore grabbed the inbound pass, sprinted up to the facepaint mark of the Seminole logo and lofted up a 47-foot shot, drilling the back of the rim to give the Hokies an eight-point lead heading into halftime.

The three-pointer was part of a 20-point performance from the sophomore guard, her highest this season, in addition to her eight assists.

The output helped propel Virginia Tech (9-3, 1-0 Atlantic Coast) over Florida State (6-5, 0-1 ACC) in the Hokies’ first ACC game of the season, 92-75, in Tallahassee.

While Amoore played a large role in VT’s victory, it couldn’t have been possible without the standout performance of Elizabeth Kitley, who finished with 34 points and 13 rebounds, notching her fifth double-double of the year.

Kitley and Amoore combined for over half of Techs’ point total, but three other Hokies finished in double figures, including Cayla King, who shot a perfect 3-of-3 from behind the arc, finishing with 11 points.

One thing that Virginia Tech did well in the victory was getting to the free throw line and capitalizing, something Kenny Brooks has emphasized the importance of over the last few weeks. The Hokies made 20 shots from the charity stripe, shooting 80% on the day.

Tech also played complimentary basketball, dishing out 20 assists as a team. While eight of those were from Amoore, her back-up Kayanna Traylor got four in as well, despite coming off the bench.

The former All Big-Ten Second Team member has continually proven her value to the team through the first twelve games and backed up that sentiment with an 11-point performance against the Seminoles.

The blowout victory is a great start for Kenny Brooks and Co. as they look to finish in the top five of the ACC and shoot for a Sweet 16 appearance.
