virginia tech picks up 6-1 victory over radford

BLACKSBURG, Va. Virginia Tech (4-9, 0-6 ACC) is two for three in its last matchups after adding a home win over Radford (2-5) on Monday.


Tech won the first match of the day for doubles on court one, courtesy of Nika Kozar and Elizabet Danailova, who are currently ranked No. 58. The duo dominated their opponents with a swift 6-1 win. Radford tied things up on court two with a final of 6-4.


The Hokies secured the doubles point after Chhinda Som and Erika Cheng clinched a win on court three, winning 6-4.


Tamara Barad Itzhaki took down Melissa Ifidzhen, 6-4, 7-6 on court one to continue the Hokies’ momentum from doubles play. Katie Andreini had an assertive win on court four, winning in straight sets of 6-0, 6-1.


Cheng also executed a strong game on court five with a 6-2, 6-0 final bringing the match score to 4-0 and locking in the match victory for the Hokies.


Tech continued to dominate on the courts, adding another win on court six after a 6-2, 7-5 game from Annie Clark.


On court three, Sabina Richtrova dropped her match against Malin Falk of Radford, 6-4, 6-2. The Highlanders finally made an appearance on the board, but it was too late for a comeback with only one match remaining in play.


Nika Kozar completed the successful day for the Hokies with another win after three sets. Salma Loudili picked up the first set, 6-2, but Kozar fought back in the second, edging her out 7-6. Kozar sealed the deal with a win in the third set, giving the Hokies a 6-1 win.


Tech will play Georgia Tech for its next match on March 20 to continue a five-game streak of at-home play.
