Following a disappointing loss on the road to Wake Forest, Virginia Tech looks to bounce back against Louisville at Cardinal Stadium. The game will kick off at 4 p.m. on ACC Network.

Virginia Tech (3-2, 3-2 ACC) will look to keep its name in the hat for the ACC Championship with a victory. Louisville (2-4, 1-4) is coming off of a 48-16 thumping over Florida State to help put an end to a four-game skid.

The matchup is the first between the foes in ACC competition. They have met seven times previously with the Hokies leading the series 5-2. Most recently, Tech took down the Cardinals 35-24 in the Gator Bowl on Jan. 2, 2006.

Louisville’s key to the game: Stopping the run

Khalil Herbert has been the key to Hokies’ victories this season. When Herbert’s been contained, the Hokies’ offense has struggled. He is coming off of a season-low 64 yards in a loss to the Demon Deacons. The Cardinals defensive line, led by senior nose tackle Jared Goldwire, will have to step up to slow down Herbert.

Virginia Tech’s key to the game: Avoid turnovers

The Hokies have been known for their discipline with the football, but last Saturday was a different story. After only throwing one interception this season, Hendon Hooker threw three against Wake Forest in the loss. It was only the second time this season that Virginia Tech lost the turnover battle, the other being in a narrow 38-31 victory over Duke. The Hokies need to avoid turnovers in Louisville if they want to walk away with the road victory.

Louisville player to watch: Running back Javian Hawkins

Hawkins has been the foundation for the Cardinals offense with 693 yards on the ground this season, good enough for third-most in the FBS. He is coming off of his third game with over 100 yards against Florida State, a game in which he finsihed with 174 yards. The redshirt sophomore has received plenty of NFL buzz and may declare for the 2021 NFL Draft following this season. He’ll need to help carry Louisville's offense on Saturday.

Virginia Tech player to watch: Quarterback Hendon Hooker

Hooker showed out against Boston College with 111 passing yards, 164 rushing yards and four total touchdowns in his first start. However, he struggled against Wake Forest and threw three interceptions. If Hooker can rebound and find his footing again, the Hokies will be in a good position to come away with a win on Saturday.

Score Prediction: 34-31 Louisville
