VIRGINIA TECH FALLS 3-0 TO GEORGIA TECH IN ITS FIRST HOME GAME OF THE SEASON

BLACKSBURG, Va. — After losing two straight in Tallahassee, Virginia Tech traveled back to Blacksburg hoping to get its much needed first win of the season over No. 23 Georgia Tech, though it fell in three sets on Friday.


The Hokies started off the first set well, quickly taking a 2-0 lead. It looked as if Virginia Tech would be able to hold its own against the Yellow Jackets, but Georgia Tech quickly stormed right back and took the first set 25-17. Virginia Tech recorded 10 kills in the first set.


The Yellow Jackets continued their dominance in the second set. Georgia Tech quickly went up 4-0. However, the Hokies pulled back within three at 10-7. That was the closest the Hokies would get, though, and they lost the second set 25-20.


The third set was a must-win for the Hokies, though it was Virginia Tech’s worst set of the game. The Hokies had a whopping six attack errors on 30 attempts. Virginia Tech posted an abysmal -.100 hitting percentage as well. Georgia Tech took the set 25-10 and completed the sweep.


Kaity Smith and Angel Robinson continued their great performances this season and led the team with nine kills a piece, while Brie Postema added 11 assists.


For Georgia Tech, Julia Bergmann filled the stat sheet, recording 15 kills and one block. Additionally, Isabella D’amico recorded a whopping 23 assists for the Yellow Jackets.


Georgia Tech improves to 10-2 with its three-set sweep over Virginia Tech on Friday. The Yellow Jackets will play Syracuse in Blacksburg on Saturday at 1 p.m.


Virginia Tech lost its third straight game of the season and falls to 5-7 overall. The Hokies will play Syracuse on Sunday in Blacksburg at 1 p.m.
