TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — After falling to Notre Dame in three sets the day before, Virginia Tech sought to get in the win column against Florida State on Sunday.

Virginia Tech recorded a couple kills and kept the score close, 8-6. However, the score got out of hand soon after as Florida State pulled away and never looked back. The Seminoles went on a 4-0 run to win the first set 25-13.

The Hokies recorded 12 kills in the first set which was only one fewer than Florida State. What killed Tech in the first set, though, was errors. Tech had a whopping eight errors compared to Florida State’s zero.

The second set quickly became Virginia Tech’s best of the day — everything clicked for the Hokies. The second set went back and forth and no team was able to pull away. But, the Hokies prevailed and won a close set, 25-22. Middle blocker Angel Robinson recorded one of her four blocks of the day on the match-point of the set.

Going into the third set it looked like it was anybody's game. The Seminoles quickly went up 8-4 thanks to a couple attack errors by Virginia Tech. Florida State continued to outscore the Hokies and ran up the score, 16-10. Despite a late surge of points from Virginia Tech, Florida State took the third set of the match, handedly, 25-16.

The fourth set became a must win for Tech, however, FSU dominated. Outside hitter Morgan Chacon led Florida State to an impressive 25-9 win in the final set. The Seminoles won the match and posted a .486 hitting percentage in the last set compared to the Hokies, who posted a .083 hitting percentage — their worst of the day.

Chacon stuffed the stat sheet with a team leading 17 kills, three assists and nine digs in the match.

Outside hitter Ashley Homan and outside hitter Kaity Smith both had good games for the Hokies today. Homan tied a season-high with 15 kills. Smith recorded 14 kills and four blocks as well.

With the loss, Virginia Tech falls to 5-6 and 4-6 in conference play.

The Hokies next game will be their first in Blacksburg since the fall. They’ll face Georgia Tech on Friday at 1 p.m.

Florida State improves to 10-3 and 7-0 in conference play. The Seminoles will travel to Charlottesville where they will face the Cavaliers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
