virginia tech drops third straight match; still searching for first acc win

BLACKSBURG — Virginia Tech dropped its third consecutive match Friday afternoon with a 4-1 loss against No. 1 North Carolina.


The Hokies (4-12, 0-9 ACC) came into Friday’s match having already dropped two straight home matches — the first to No. 8 Georgia Tech and then to Clemson.


Tech is currently in last place in the ACC Standings and still trails Clemson by one match.


North Carolina came into Friday’s match in first place with a (18-0 overall, 7-0 ACC) record.


The only two wins for VT came in the doubles portion of the match and in the singles portion of the match.


In the doubles match, Shane Disbergen and Rita Pinto won 6-1. Nina Sorkin was sole singles winner for Tech.


The Hokies next match is against William and Mary in Blacksburg, March 27 at 2 p.m., at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.


The match marks the last home match for VT this season.
