BLACKSBURG, Va. — With 3:17 to go in the game, Virginia Tech lagged behind No. 18 Louisville 13-7 when Paige Petty rifled in her 188th career goal to pass Dawn Will for the most scores in the history of the program. Will, who graduated in 2000, previously held the record with 187 career goals.

Sarah Lubnow also reached a career milestone against the Cardinals, notching her 100th point as a Hokie when she assisted Petty’s historic score.

Other than those two achievements, it was a game to forget for Virginia Tech (3-7, 0-5) as the team fell to Louisville (5-6, 1-5) on Saturday afternoon, 13-9.

The Hokies got behind early on, trailing 3-0 after the first five and a half minutes of the game. Virginia Tech fired back with two goals, courtesy of Caroline Allen and Lubnow.

Ally Hall then took things into her own hands for Louisville, scoring a pair of goals to earn a hat trick twelve minutes into the game, after netting one of the Cardinals’ initial three goals.

Both sides traded pairs of goals to finish off the first half. Louisville clung to a 7-4 lead going into the break.

The Cardinals got off to an explosive start in the second half, riding a 5-1 run in the first fifteen minutes of the half. The lone Hokie goal during the run came from Emma Crooks.

Virginia Tech dominated the final thirteen minutes of the game, outscoring Louisville 4-1, including Petty’s record-setting goal. Despite the late effort, the Hokies couldn’t complete the comeback.

Sara Goodwin, Allen, Crooks, Lubnow, and Petty all netted goals for Virginia Tech. Allen had a solid outing on the day, earning the Hokies’ only Hat Trick.

Virginia Tech will host No. 4 Boston College (8-1, 4-1) next Saturday at noon. The game will be televised on ACC Network Extra.
