BLACKSBURG - Wrestling Head Coach Tony Robie signed an extension with Virginia Tech, tying the third-year head coach to the Hokies until 2025.

Robie arrived at Virginia Tech in 2006 and served as the team’s associate head coach for eleven years.

In 2017, he was called up to be the team’s next head coach after helping Virginia Tech earn a team title in the ACC Championships while serving as the interim head coach. In three years at the helm, Robie has established and maintained a winning culture in Blacksburg.

Under his leadership, the Hokies have won the ACC Tournament title twice and produced the school’s first national champion wrestler in redshirt freshman Mekhi Lewis.

"We are fortunate enough to have Tony Robie and his talented staff leading our wrestling program at Virginia Tech," Athletic Director Whit Babcock said in a statement. "We were very pleased to keep Coach Robie in Blacksburg and we are very optimistic about the continued trajectory of Virginia Tech Wrestling under his leadership.”

News of his contract extension also garnered some praise from Associate Head Coach Jared Frayer.

"Incredibly grateful to be mentored by this guy," Frayer said. "The future is bright in Blacksburg!"

Robie enters his fourth season as the head coach after a season in which his Hokies were ranked as high as third in the country, tying the highest ranking in the history of the school’s program.
