Three Hokies will be representing Virginia Tech at this weekend’s U.S. Senior Nationals wrestling tournament.

Redshirt freshman Sam Latona, 125 lbs, and redshirt junior Hunter Bolen, 184 lbs, are competing in their first senior-level matches on Saturday.

Latona added three tournament championships to resume last year, winning the Appalachian Open, the ARMS Software/GMU Patriots Open and the Southeast Open. Latona finished with a combined 10-0 record in these competitions.

Bolen is a two-time NCAA qualifier and was crowned an ACC Champion this year. He owns an impressive record of 24-2 in matches throughout his time in Blacksburg and is rated the second best in the country in his weight class.

The two will be accompanied by Virginia Tech alum and United States national team wrestler Ty Walz, 214 lbs. Walz enters the tournament seeded sixth, while Latona and Bolen remain unseeded, respectively.

Wrestlers will start competition on Friday night and will continue through Sunday night. Preliminary freestyle matches will take place on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with quarterfinals, semifinals, and consolation matches beginning at 5 p.m.

The following day will feature consolation semifinals along with third, fifth and seventh place matches. At 4 p.m. on Sunday, the winners of the weekend will be decided during the championship matches.
