Virginia Tech (4-6-2, 0-4-0) will try to end a four game conference losing streak at No. 16 North Carolina (6-3-3, 6-1-3), its longest since 2008.

The Hokies’ last ACC win came on a 1-0 win back on November 6 at Virginia.

Tech lost in heartbreaking fashion on senior night last Saturday. The Hokies pushed No. 5 Pittsburgh (11-2-0, 7-1-0) to the brink before falling 2-1 in the 102nd minute.

It was the second time the Hokies have lost to a top five foe in extra time at Thompson field this season.

Forward Jacob Labovitz was able to tie the game at one in the 86th minute, earning his sixth goal of the season.

Virginia Tech’s hopes at a top five win sank with a Matt Zambetti save off the crossbar before the ball found forward Alexander Dexter’s right foot and flew into an empty net.

The Tarheels find themselves in first place of the coastal division with 10 points while the Hokies sit last with zero.

North Carolina comes into its own senior night following a 2-1 overtime victory at Notre Dame. Freshman midfielder Tim Schels scored his first collegiate goal in the 97th minute.

The Heels are 3-0-1 in their last four games, including wins against No. 5 Pittsburgh, Virginia, and Notre Dame.

North Carolina beat Virginia Tech in their last meeting, 3-1 in 2019 at Thompson Field. North Carolina leads the all times series 16-3-1. Tech’s last win was a 1-0 score at home in 2011.

The match is set to kick off at 7 p.m.
