Virginia Tech stands for the national anthem on Wednesday before its loss to VCU. (Virginia Tech Athletics)

BLACKSBURG, Va. — No. 18 Virginia Tech (8-3, 4-2) returns to English Field with its sights set on a third straight ACC series victory, taking on Florida State (4-5, 2-4).

Florida State has historically dominated Virginia Tech, holding a 46-15 record all-time over the Hokies.

The Seminoles come to Blacksburg on a high note after taking two-of-three from the Virginia Cavaliers. In the series finale, redshirt junior pitcher Conor Grady gave the Noles seven strong innings, striking out nine Virginia hitters and allowing only two runs across the plate.

Wyatt Crowell slammed the door on the Cavaliers with two innings of no-hit baseball, securing the series victory for Florida State.

While Virginia Tech faced VCU on Tuesday and Wednesday, Florida State was supposed to face some midweek competition in Tallahassee against South Florida, but it was postponed due to COVID-19 issues.

The Hokies split the two-game series with the Rams earlier in the week, taking the first game on Tuesday 10-9 on a clutch walk-off hit from Kevin Madden and dropping the second 10-7 on Wednesday.

The top of the lineup has been incredibly productive for the Hokies thus far, led by TJ Rumfield, who’s hitting a team-best .364. Freshmen Gavin Cross and Tanner Schobel have been instrumental as well, each with an OPS over one-thousand.

Prior to the split with the Rams, the Hokies took two of three from both No. 6 Miami and No. 25 North Carolina. This weekend, Tech looks to make it a third ACC series win in three tries.

The Hokies and Seminoles meet at 4 p.m Friday afternoon for the first matchup of this three-game series.
