DAVIDSON, N.C. — In the first two minutes of the game, Whitney Liebler ran around the goal and fired the ball into the back left of the net to put the Hokies up 1-0.

After a disheartening 22-1 loss to No. 1 North Carolina last Saturday, the quick strike made it appear that Virginia Tech was in for a big bounce back game.

The momentum was quickly taken away, however, as the initial score from Liebler was followed by three straight scores from Davidson, an early signal of the tough outing that ensued for VT.

No. 16 Virginia Tech (2-4, 0-3) fell to Davidson (5-2, 0-0) in blowout fashion Wednesday night, 15-8.

Paige Petty cut into the early two goal deficit with a score at the 20:25 mark, to set the score at 3-2. From that point on it was all Davidson, as the Wildcats rode a 5-1 lead in the final eighteen minutes of the first half.

The strong finish to the first thirty minutes of play gave Davidson a 9-3 advantage at the half.

The Wildcats carried that momentum to the second half, scoring the first two goals of the period to extend their lead to eight.

Virginia Tech showed some life after that, scoring two straight goals via scores from Emma Crooks and Paige Petty. Davidson fired back with three straight scores to push its lead up to nine goals.

A goal from each team within the following four minutes precluded a nearly eight minute scoring drought for both sides. Two goals from Grace Nelson and Sophie Student in the final four minutes of the game came too little too late for the Hokies.

Virginia Tech returns on Saturday to take on No. 14 Jacksonville (3-0, 0-0) in Blacksburg. The game will be televised on ACC Network Extra.
