No. 10 Virginia Tech capped off its non-conference schedule against the team that ended its season last year with a 2-2 draw.

The Hokies (2-0-2) faced off against No. 20 Seton Hall (2-0-2) on Monday afternoon in Raleigh, N.C.

Monday’s match was the second game for the Hokies in the NC State Tournament. On Friday, Tech beat UCF, 2-1.

Virginia Tech came out of the gates swinging with a goal in the fifth minute by Pol Monells, his first goal as a Hokie, with a volley over the keeper to open the scoring.

The match began to pick up right before the halftime horn when two goals were scored in a span of four minutes.

Seton Hall found the equalizer in the 40th minute but Tech responded with a header by Conor Pugh for his first goal as Hokie.

Tech took a 2-1 lead into halftime behind two first-time scorers.

Virginia Tech continued to surge ahead behind a rocket off the boot of Landon Ameres, making it 3-1 in the 52nd minute. It was all downhill for the Hokies after that.

Seton Hall was able to recreate the same opportunities it had in the last matchup against the Hokies with chances inside the box. In the end, the pressure produced two goals in seven minutes of play to tie the game 3-3.

Both teams traded blows across two extra time periods but neither could find their fourth goal to earn the win.

These two programs have now played twice in the calendar year with a total of four overtimes. Tech lost its third round NCAA Tournament matchup to the Pirates in penalty kicks 7-6 (2-2).

Tech is undefeated in their four neutral site games this season, with two of them being against ranked opponents.

Virginia Tech will open ACC play on the road this Saturday at Duke. Opening kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
