BLACKSBURG — The Hokies picked up their 22nd commit in the 2021 class on Saturday when Jack Hollifield, the younger brother of junior linebacker Dax Hollifield, announced his commitment via Twitter.

In his announcement on Twitter, Jack thanked his dad and brother for help during the recruiting process.

“Both of them going through the recruiting process themselves has given me a huge advantage in looking for the right school,” Hollifield wrote in his commitment post. “I’ve learned from them the importance of hard work and getting out what you put into something.”

Going into his senior year, Jack is listed as the No. 30 inside linebacker in the class of 2021.

The three-star linebacker is the second Virginia Tech recruit in the class of 2021 following in its brother’s footsteps after Jalen Stroman, the younger brother of Greg Stroman, committed in late May.

Dax started in every game for the Hokies last season as a sophomore, recording 67 tackles, two sacks and three interceptions. In 2018, he made an immediate impact as a freshman with 62 tackles and two sacks. A four-star recruit, Hollifield committed to Virginia Tech in February of 2018 as the number seven recruit in the state of North Carolina.

Jack’s father, Aubrey Hollifield, played defensive lineman at Wake Forest from 1988-91.

Jack committed to Virginia Tech over numerous offers including Maryland, Michigan, Tennessee, Virginia and Wake Forest. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound linebacker attended Shelby High School in Shelby, N.C. He led the Golden Lions to their second straight state championship in 2019, recording 164 tackles and nine sacks along the way.

Jack originally played defensive lineman as a freshman before making the switch over to linebacker as a sophomore, where he recorded 137 tackles and five sacks.

“I am honored to announce that I am 100% committed to the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University,” Hollifield said at the end of his post.

Three years after Dax made his debut in Blacksburg, the two brothers will have the chance to play alongside each other in 2021.
