BLACKSBURG, Va. — Virginia Tech enters Wednesday’s match against James Madison on a high note after shutting out Boston College 7-0 to open up ACC play.

JMU kicks off its 2021 season in Blacksburg after its opening match on the road against Drexel was postponed due to inclement weather.

Tech (4-2, 1-0 ACC) has lost both of its matches ranked opponents — North Carolina and Kentucky — on the road.

The Dukes finished their 2019-2020 campaign early (8-5 overall, 0-2 CAA) due to the start of the pandemic in March of 2020. They have not played in a match since March 12, 2020.

The Hokies have a 20-3 record all-time against James Madison, as well as a 19-match winning streak. The last time these two teams met was in Blacksburg on Feb. 8, 2019, where the Tech swept the match 4-0.

Ryan Fishback will try to keep his momentum going after nearly putting on a perfect performance last week, winning 6-0, 6-1 in his singles match against Boston College.

Mitch Harper, Tech’s No. 1, started out the 2021 season ranked No. 38 in the nation and is the only ranked player on VT’s team. He won both straight sets last week in his match, 6-3 and 6-1, though he will not play against James Madison.

Virginia Tech hosts James Madison in Blacksburg on Wednesday at 2 p.m at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
