BLACKSBURG After a heart attack of a week for the Hokie faithful, Virginia Tech (5-1-2, 2-1 ACC) improved in the rankings, with a slight jump from No. 12 to No. 11.

Following its thrilling double OT victory over rival Virginia, VT stumbled through its mid-week match up against William & Mary.

The Tribe (2-3) were not expected to be much of a challenge for the Hokies, but took two one-goal leads, threatening Tech’s standing. The Hokies managed to escape with a win, showing their continued fight.

Last Friday, in front of another packed home crowd that included alumni from the past 50 years of Virginia Tech men’s soccer, the team pulled off another electric overtime victory, off the remarkable moves of midfielder Danny Flores, who scored a game-winning goal in overtime.

The men’s team will now look to put together more comprehensive wins over unranked opponents, facing East Tennessee State University and Boston College in the upcoming week.
