HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Moving on from a rough 4-1 loss to Notre Dame, Virginia Tech (3-8, 0-5) rebounded with a win in a close match against Marshall (3-4) on Wednesday.

The doubles points went to the Herd, with Annie Clark and Nina Sorkin falling to Madi Ballow and Madison Riley 6-4, and Hokie duo Katie Andreini and Erika Cheng losing to Anna Smith and Daniela Dankanych 6-4.

The Hokies pulled off the comeback in the singles, with Andreini starting the spark with a 6-2, 6-3 victory on court five over Riley.

The win was followed by another strong defeat on court four by Sorkin, who won 6-2, 6-1 over Jutte Van Hansewyck to put the Hokies on top 2-1.

Tech’s Shene Disbergen was victorious over Riley on court six, 6-2, 6-3, but there were still three matches left on the court - Marshall had to win all three to secure the match.

The Herd started the next three strong, with a 7-5, 6-2 win on court two from Dankanych. Their trend continued, with Ballow overpowering Hokie Rita Pinto after three sets of 3-6, 6-4 and 6-4 on court three to tie the march.

It was all up to Tech’s Tamara Barad Itzhaki, who was left playing against Anna Smith on court one.

Itzhaki dropped the first set, but came back strong in the second. The third set was a back-and-forth battle, with Itzhaki ultimately coming out on top to win the match for the Hokies, 7-6 (8-6). The freshman has shown to be clutch for the Hokies and continues to prove herself on the court.

Tech downed Marshall 4-3 and will look to use the win as a catalyst ahead of its match against in-state rival Virginia on Saturday.
