BLACKSBURG — In Friday night’s affair, the out of bounds line played a big role. After numerous back and forth possessions throughout the first two sets, it was clear that Florida State was able to capitalize on attacking errors by Virginia Tech.

These errors came early and often, as the Hokies appeared to be unable to gage the power on their spikes, sending the ball past the line, and out of bounds numerous times.

It resulted in a win for Florida State, and although Tech showed some promise with late surges in sets, FSU dominated throughout, sweeping the Hokies, 3-0.

Overall, the stats show why this game went the Seminoles way. Florida State led in nearly every major stat, from points to digs, and managed to limit its mistakes, minimizing its attacking errors to just nine, while Virginia Tech had 23.

Even though things didn’t go their way, the Hokies had a few standout players, one of which was freshman outside hitter Elayna Duprey. Duprey shined in all three sets, staying in for most of the game, and staying involved in many plays. The freshman led the way in a late surge during the first set, and also finished top three on the team in kills, blocks, and digs.

Now, after this loss the Hokies are clearly in a rough spot. They’re on a ten game skid, are winless in ACC play and haven’t won a set since Oct. 1. However, Senior middle blocker Angel Robinson still thinks the team can turn things around.

“I have 100 percent confidence that this team can still turn around the season,” Robinson said. “It’s not too late for us. A lot of the ACC teams we’ve lost to already will have to play us again later in the season, I think we’ve just gotta get a groove together and we’ll be headed in the right direction.”

So, with that said, it’ll take a lot to get this team on the right track, but players like Robinson could be what the team needs to turn things around. When Virginia Tech takes on Miami on Sunday it will need senior leadership from the likes of Robisnon and co. in order to potentially end this ACC drought.
