BLACKSBURG This was a week of firsts for freshman midfielder Danny Flores, as he scored his first goal for No. 11 Virginia Tech and earned his first Co-ACC Offensive Player of the Week honor.

His first goal of the season couldn’t have come at a better time or in better fashion, as he danced around three Notre Dame defenders before threading the game-winner through goalkeeper Bryan Dowd’s legs. His goal ended the Hokies second-straight overtime win at home, moving them to a 2-1-0 ACC record.

Prior to the goal, Flores had two assists for the Hokies, which came against Marshall and UCF. He now has four points on the season, tied with Sivert Haugli and behind Pol Monells (5), Landon Ameres (9), and Jacob Labovitz (11).

The goal was picked up by national media as well, as Flores ended up at the No. 4 spot on ESPN’s Top 10 playlist that Friday evening.

Flores is the ninth player to score this season for the men, with Haugli (2), Monells (2), Ameres (3), and Labovitz (5) all scoring more than one.
