4-H Camp is Pulaski County 4-H's #1 4-H summer activity and the opportunity for campers to have positive life changing experiences. Campers try new things, make new friends, create lifelong memories, and gain the independence that comes from a week at 4-H Junior Camp. Those experiences are the cornerstone of what 4-H is all about. Join us this year as we make memories at 4-H Camp!
4-H Camp is co-ed and open to campers ages 9 to 13.
4-H Camp Registration opens on April 6, 2022, closes April 22, 4:30PM, and available to the first 136 campers (with full payment), or whichever occurs first. Camp will be filled on a first-come, first -serve basis.
Campers will choose a Class Track, with each Class Track consisting of three classes.
Campers will be grouped in packs according to their lodging assignment.
Campers can request up to two roommates and we will do our best to accommodate requests.
Campers in the same room will also be assigned to the same class track. So if you would like to room with a friend, please make sure that you choose the same class tracks on your registration.
There will be free swim and recreation time each day, as well as evening programs and campfire.
The Spirit Stick is awarded for spirit, participation and demonstration of good character!
4-H Camp Preregistration will occur online this year. You'll complete online and print a copy to bring to the Pulaski Extension Office, along with the 4-H Health History Report Form, 4-H Medication Form and 4-H Equine Waiver.
This year the camp fee is $375, which includes a $50 non-refundable deposit, and includes transportation, meals, snacks, lodging for five days and four nights, a camp t-shirt, class supplies and evening program materials.
The $375 4-H Camp Fee can be paid by check or cash and more information about those options can be found on the Payment Page. We also offer limited financial assistance for those with a financial need.
Campers will rotate through camp classes. We will offer seven (maybe eight) different class tracks and we will try our best to accommodate class track requests. There is free swim and recreation time each day, as well as evening programs and campfire.
Each room will be a part of a pack which serves as the camper’s “family” or "pod" during the week of camp. There will be 32-48 campers/CITs/Teens/Adults to a pack. Packs will participate in a separate class tracks. More information about class tracks offered can be found on the Classes Page.
Each year we recruit Counselors in Training (CIT),(minimum of 13 years by January 1, 2022) and Teen Counselors (14 years and up by January 1, 2022) to serve as volunteer role models/leaders for our camp. These CIT's and teens, as well as our adult volunteer leaders, 4-H Extension Staff, and 4-H Center Staff, complete a training series and are tested on core concepts before attending camp. Background checks are conducted for those leaders 18 years of age and up. Our all volunteer staff is trained according to the American Camp Association requirements and you can rest assured that your child will have a safe, enjoyable experience at 4-H Camp!
Virginia’s 4-H camping program is recognized throughout the nation as a leader in 4-H camping programs. Each of the six Virginia 4-H Educational Centers has achieved and maintains American Camp Association (ACA) accreditation.
Parents and guardians should always look for the ACA seal when selecting a camp for their child to attend. Only about 25 percent of all camps in the nation are accredited by the ACA, the recognized camp accreditation organization in the United States. Having ACA accreditation means that the camp meets the highest standards for safety, food service and staffing, health care, and program quality.
Each 4-H Educational Center maintains these standards annually. Additionally, all 300 standards are reviewed every three years for reaccreditation. Each 4-H center program staff person, as well as the adult and teen 4-H volunteers who participate in camp, are carefully selected and trained prior to the camping event.
COVID Policy items to note before you register:
Currently all COVID mask restrictions have been lifted for 2022 4-H Camp.
However, we will continue to monitor COVID-19 Community Levels and follow mask guidance in accordance to local and CDC mask guidance. Community level ‘High’ = mask required indoors for all 4-H programs. Community level ‘Low/Moderate’ = personal preference.
The COVID-19 Community Level data is updated once per week and Virginia Cooperative Extension (VCE) faculty/staff organizing events will include expectations for mask/face coverings in event details. Creating a sense of belonging and a welcoming environment is a foundational principle of 4-H positive youth development. To that end, we will support and make all individuals that choose to wear a mask/face covering feel welcome.
Note, a daily Health Check will occur on the morning of Monday, June 6, before we leave for 4-H Camp and will also occur every morning while at 4-H Camp. Those experiencing signs of illness, fever or COVID like symptoms, will not be allowed attend and/or to stay at 4-H Camp. We strongly discourage attendance by anyone sick or showing signs of illness within the last 14 days.

There will be 7, maybe 8, class tracks available to campers. Therefore, lodges will be grouped together with youth, Counselors In Training, Teen Counselors and Adult Leaders. These groups will travel together for classes, meals, recreation time, and evening programs.
We will still have special evening programs and campfires, but these activities may take place in the larger areas of camp if we must allow for proper social distancing. What happens if it rains? Just like rainy days at camp in the past, we have plenty of activities, in large areas (indoors and covered outdoor space), to fill the time and still maintain any safety precautions required.
We will have daily health screenings with temperature checks each morning. Unfortunately, we recognize there is a potential someone will get sick. Just like in typical years, anyone exhibiting symptoms of illness will be isolated and emergency contacts will be notified to come to camp to pick up the sick individual.
