Harvie P. Portugaliza

Harvie is a professor at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Visayas State University. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree (Cum Laude) from Visayas State University and a Master of Science in Tropical Animal Health, specializing in animal disease control, from the Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM) in Antwerp. He holds an International Doctorate in Transdisciplinary Global Health Solutions (Cum Laude), focusing on molecular parasitology and epidemiology of malaria parasites, from  Instituto de Salud Global de Barcelona (ISGlobal), Hospital Clinic–Universitat de Barcelona, in collaboration with ITM and Department of Global Health, Amsterdam University Medical Center, University of Amsterdam. He spent his postgraduate work at the Malaria Epigenetics Unit (Cortés Lab) at ISGlobal and the Malariology Unit (Rosanas-Urgell Lab) at ITM. Harvie has received the Belgian Directorate General for Development Scholarship and the Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate Program Scholarship. He is a regular member of the National Research Council of the Philippines (Division XIII - Veterinary Medicine) and a diplomate of the Philippine College of Veterinary Epidemiologists (PCVE). His research interests lie in parasitology and epidemiology, particularly in zoonotic and economically significant diseases.
