Harvie P. Portugaliza

Dr. Harvie P. Portugaliza is a Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Visayas State University. He is a recipient of the Kei-ichiro Maeda Memorial T&C Award 2026 and has received prestigious international scholarships from the Belgian Directorate General for Development Cooperation and the Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate Programme. He completed postgraduate research training at the Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM) in Antwerp and the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal), applying molecular parasitology and epidemiology approaches to malaria research. His current research in the Philippines centers on African swine fever (ASF), animal parasites, and diseases of economic and public health importance. Dr. Portugaliza is a regular member of the National Research Council of the Philippines and a diplomate of the Philippine College of Veterinary Epidemiologists. He's the Editor-in-Chief of the scientific journal Annals of Tropical Research. With over a decade of experience in veterinary education, research, and extension, he actively leads capacity-building and applied research initiatives involving students, local governments, and livestock stakeholders.
