Hi friends! My name is Anna Seneker, and I am a senior at the University of Tennessee in my 1st year of the teaching program. I'll graduate in May 2024 as an Elementary Education major with an English minor. I plan to head straight into a Master's of Education program following undergrad. My goal is to begin teaching upper elementary during my graduate program, but I may be attending graduate school in Europe, so that is to be determined! I have always enjoyed learning new things and getting up in front of the class to talk, so teaching is really my calling.
I have had a lot of experience with kids of all ages. In high school, I volunteered in my former church's nursery one Sunday a month; I worked with the 4-year-old class. We had so much fun making crafts and playing on the playground together. During this time, I was also serving as a Youth Intern in my former church's youth group. This position had me working with 5th graders all the way to seniors in high school. I helped out with activities and sang in the praise band as well, so I really got to work with all ages during this time.
Currently, I work for an elementary school in my hometown doing before and after-school child care. For this job, I work with pre-K kids through 5th graders. We help our kids with homework, read with them, make crafts, as well as just spending time with them while their parents are at work. I love this job, and it has provided me with invaluable experience working in a school setting prior to my student teaching placement. I have gotten to student teach for a pre-K classroom through this job as well as getting to form relationships with some awesome kids.
When I am not in class or at work, I enjoy getting coffee with my friends and going to antique shops in Jonesborough, TN. I also enjoy going on drives with my friends and going on hikes. I spend a lot of time at home reading and hanging out with my cat. I really have a passion for reading, and my goal is to help my students find their love of reading. My goal is to have an amazingly diverse library in my classroom so every student in my room can find something they'll love to read.
