Office of Professional Licensure confirms completion of any other additional licensure requirements, for example the Tennessee Literacy Success Act
At the completion of the JEP Program, UTK will verify that all program requirements have been satisfactorily met. Many JEPs complete the teacher preparation program and Master’s degree at the same time.
JEPs who do not satisfactorily complete all UTK licensure program requirements within six months of graduation or licensure expiration will be designated as “no longer affiliated” with the UTK Teacher Preparation Program in TNCompass, thereby jeopardizing their eligibility to renew/advance their Tennessee license.
A detailed description of each aspect of this Gateway follows:
Verification of coursework completion, as required for both degree and licensure.
Verification of successful Praxis and summative pedagogical assessment completion. JEPs must pass and all required Praxis exams prior to completing the job embedded program. See TN state board policy 5.105 for required Praxis examinations. Remember that multiple licensure areas result in additional Praxis exam requirements.
TNCompass status update. Following completion of all program requirements, and verification of their satisfactory completion, UTK will designate JEPs as Completers in TNCompass. This will allow candidates to advance their teacher licensure upon completing two more years of teaching experience.
If candidates do not reach the above Gateway at the time of their practitioner licensure expiration, program faculty are expected to meet with the candidate and file a ProCADs support plan for professional competencies. This plan should include the components that need to be met and a timeline, not to exceed 60 days, for the completion of the lacking Gateway requirements.
Candidates who do not meet all requirements of this final Gateway within 60 calendar days of their graduation will be marked “off-track” within the TNCompass licensure reporting system.
Candidates who fail to achieve this Gateway within six months of licensure expiration will be designated as “no longer affiliated with the UTK Teacher Preparation Program” in TNCompass, thereby jeopardizing their Tennessee license.
