How long will classes last?
Tuesday morning classes will last approximately 3 hours. 9-12, Additional educational events will vary in length.
May I participate if I am not a resident of Coffee ,Franklin or Marion County?
Yes! If you are a resident of a surrounding county that does not offer the Tennessee Extension Master Gardener Program, you may participate in the program through the Coffee/Franklin/Marion County class.
This includes Lincoln, Grundy, Moore, Bedford, and Cannon Counties.
Will classes be held in person or virtually?
Classes will be held in person, though most speakers will be presenting virtually. This allows us to partner with high-quality specialists and other Master Gardeners across the state while maintaining local connections.
In-person classes will be held at the University of Tennessee Space Institute Campus at 411 B H Goethert Parkway, Tullahoma.
Additional outdoor learning opportunities will be made available throughout the course as appropriate.
What are the requirements to graduate from the program and become an official Master Gardener?
40 hours of instruction and 40 hours of volunteer work completed within a year after the completion of classes. If this sounds like a lot, don't worry. Once you find a project you're passionate about, you will easily surpass the requirements.
What are the benefits of being a Master Gardener?
You learn from leading researchers and specialists how to better care for your soil, garden, and surrounding ecosystem in a hands-on learning environment. You also learn to identify potential threats to those plants, and have the opportunity to serve as a resource to your community!
Is there a fee?
A class fee of $150 is due upon acceptance into the program and will cover your classes, textbook, workshop materials, etc. Financial assistance is available upon request.
