College Planning Events
What Can You Expect During A Virtual College Fair?
Today, nearly every typical in-person event is going virtual. But when it comes to college fairs, you're probably wondering what to expect from the experience. NHHEAF's Center for College Planning has the 411 so that you can prepare and make the most out of any virtual college fair you attend.
Every fair is a little different, but the ultimate goal is to discover what each school has to offer. Some might offer one-on-one conversations, panels, Q&A sessions, or live webinars. You'll want to keep an open mind so that you can explore all of your options, which may lead you to a school you hadn't even considered attending. To fully immerse yourself in the experience, be sure to interact and ask questions!
To prepare for a virtual college fair, NHHEAF recommends:
When you register for a college fair, admissions representatives will utilize your information to send follow-up materials. Use this as an opportunity to respond and thank them for their time. They will appreciate you reaching out and could also potentially help you stand out from other applicants.
Virtual college fairs often include many different sessions that you can attend throughout the day. Set a schedule for yourself ahead of time so that you can plan your day and attend all of the sessions that you are interested in.
Invite your support network to attend as well. Whether that be your parents, sibling, or close friend, having a second opinion can make a difference. If the fair is hosting two sessions simultaneously, it is also beneficial to have someone else attend for you so that you don't have to miss out.
Research the colleges who are attending the fair. Do any of these schools align with what you are looking for in a school? Do they offer a program that interests you? Answer these questions before the event to prioritize your time and form a plan for your day. Don't worry if you miss a school during the fair; colleges offer many resources on their websites!
