The Department of Chemistry, VIVA College, organized a seminar on “Beyond the Dose: The Science of Drug Movement and Metabolism through ADME and PK” on 14th August 2025 at 8:30 am in the Chemistry Research Laboratory, Ground Floor, VIVA College. The seminar aimed to provide PG students with an in-depth understanding of the processes of Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, and Excretion (ADME) along with Pharmacokinetics (PK), highlighting their crucial role in determining the safety, efficacy, and optimization of drug therapies.
The resource person, Dr. Shailesh Gurav, delivered an insightful presentation on how ADME and PK studies help scientists and researchers understand drug behaviour in the body beyond just the administered dose.
The event was efficiently coordinated by the Organizing Committee comprising Ms. Seema Jadhav (Chairperson), Dr. Shailesh Gurav, and Dr. Arti Dubey, under the guidance of Dr. Prajakta Paranjpe (Vice-Principal) and Dr. Deepa Verma, I/c Principal, and IQAC coordinator.

The Department of Chemistry organized an Alumni Meet for UG students on 15th February 2021, so that the students can interact with the alumni. The event was conducted to create awareness among students about the scope of their subject in the professional world. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation, the Alumni meeting was organized on the online platform using Google Meet.
The Alumni Meet was scheduled at 4.00p.m on 15th February 2021. A total 79 students attended the event.
Following Alumni had shared their experiences –
1. Ms. Janhavi Khedaskar (M.Sc – Organic Chemistry) 2. Mr. Avinash Upadhyay (M.Sc – Organic Chemistry)
1. Ms. Janhavi Khedaskar is at present working at Tree House High School as a Post-Secondary School Teacher. She has done specialization in Organic Chemistry and passed out in the year 2019.
2. Mr. Avinash Upadhyay is at present working at Everest Flavours Ltd. He has done specialization in Organic Chemistry and passed out in the year 2019.
The students had a very interactive session with the Alumni. The students asked about further studies in the field of Chemistry. Also, they discussed the job opportunities and also about the entrance tests which have to be given for teaching fields etc. Overall the event was very informative and joyful for students.
CHEM PUZZLE COMPETITION was organised by DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY on 23rd January 2021 for UG students. The event was organized by Dr. Arti Dubey, Mrs. Priya Barve, Mrs. Seema jadhav

A “Poster Making Competition using PowerPoint” was organised by the Chemistry department on 28th January 2021. Due to the Covid-19 situation, the competition was held online. It was open to undergraduate as well as postgraduate students. There was solo as well as group participation. Students were asked to select for their presentation any one of the four topics given below:
Nanotechnology
New elements in the periodic table
Green Chemistry
Pandemic 2019
36 students from F.Y.B.Sc. to T.Y.B.Sc. and M.Sc. part I and II registered themselves and 35 participated in the competition. The performance of the competitors was judged by the conductors of the competition namely Prof. Ajit Ingle, Dr. Promila Nagpal, Dr. Gayatri Gadre and Prof. Rashmita Vaychal. In view of the judges, all the participants presented well and covered many aspects of their respective topics in a single slide with text as well as images.

Department of Chemistry organized an events for UG students (CHEMISTRY QUIZ COMPETITION) to inculcate Knowledge, Skills, Passion and Confidence in students. CHEMISTRY QUIZ COMPETITION was organized by DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY on 23rd January 2021 for UG STUDENTS. The event was organized by Mr. Chetan Meher, Miss. Sheetal Jaiswal, Miss. Rutuja Sawant. It gives a Golden opportunity for Students of CHEMISTRY to explore & improvise their General Knowledge skills. Besides the obvious academic benefits of expanding a student’s knowledge and exploring new skills at an early age, quizzes redefine the education system in significant ways.

The PowerPoint presentation competition on ‘Innovations in Chemistry’ was organized by the Department of Chemistry on 08th February 2020 at Old Viva College for M.Sc Part I students. The event was organized by Mr. Chetan Meher and judged by Mr. Shailesh Gurav. The winners were felicitated with medals and certificates were distributed to all the participants.

Interdepartmental activity:
One day workshop on Analytical Instrumention
One day workshop on Analytical Instrumentation was organized by the Department of Chemistry on 11th February 2020 at Old Viva College for TYBSc students. The workshop was conducted in collaboration with the Chemistry department and Life Sciences department in association with the Instrumentation Laboratory (VCARD). Information and working of FTIR spectrophotometer, GCMS, HPLC, and AAS were demonstrated by Dr. Nikhil Teli and Mr. Siddhesh Mangaonkar from the Life science department. Mrs. Priyanka Rodrigues and Mrs. Dipika Chorghe from the Chemistry Department demonstrated the working of UV Spectrophotometer. The event was organized by Mrs. Kirti Mhatre and coordinated by Mrs. Namarat Kawale, Mrs. Dipti Gharat, Miss. Riyan Gardner and Dr. Sheetal Powar. Total 60 students attended the workshop. All the participants were provided with certificates. Special Thanks to Dr, Deepa Verma Head, Department of Botany and Incharge of VCARD for the permission to visit VCARD and all necessary arrangements.
