COUNSELING DEPARTMENT

MISSION

Our mission is to provide a data driven and equitable comprehensive school counseling program through the standards of the American school counselor association (ASCA) in order to support the personal, social-emotional, academic and career development for all students in an ever changing world.

VISION

VMMS comprehensive school counseling program supports all students and encourages them to grow as emotionally intelligent, resilient and progressive problem solvers that utilize healthy coping skills to navigate the world around them. Our students are prepared to advocate for themselves, and be culturally competent in a diverse community with the ability to think critically and problem solve.

A MESSAGE FROM THE COUNSELING TEAM

VMMS counselors empower all students to build confidence, independence and resiliency to be able to navigate these delicate years. We do this by helping students with identifying their individual strengths, and teaching positive coping skills, kindness, and empathy. Our purpose is to cultivate a positive school climate where all students feel safe and accepted. We support students through academic goal-setting, fostering social/emotional skills, and continue to encourage students to explore college & career pathways.

Parents are welcome to contact their student's counselor with concerns that impact school learning. If you need to speak with a counselor, please call us, email us or make an appointment to come into the counseling office.

With love, your School Counselors: Ms. Andrade, Mrs. Carrio ^__^ and Ms. Smith

VMMS is a No Place For Hate school!

What is No Place for Hate®?

No Place for Hate® is an organizing framework and ADL partnership program for K-12 schools. Our program is a holistic, school-wide approach to improving school climate that amplifies students’ voices in creating the school they want and leverages the wisdom of teachers, administrators and family members to achieve their school climate goals! The program can be tailored to meet the unique needs of your school and build upon the work you are already doing. Participating schools incorporate ADL’s anti-bias and bullying prevention resources with their existing programming to form one powerful message that all students have a place to belong.

At Vista Magnet we are proud to be part of this program. We all collaborate and prioritize making our campus a safe place for all students.
