Course Objectives/Outcomes:
1. Respond to greetings, personal information, and simple questions (weather, family, employment, etc)
2. Understand natural spoken English.
3. Follow multi-stepped directions or instructions.
4. Understand simple idiomatic expressions.
5. Write numbers, letters, simple words, and phrases from dictation.
6. Use basic punctuation and capitalization.
7. Write personal information on forms (jobs and DMV)
8. Spell familiar words.
9. Use simple sentences to answer questions using simple vocabulary.
10. Use the telephone to make emergency calls, schedule appointments, and ask questions.
11. Read common sight words, simple sentences with learned vocabulary, maps, graphs, charts, symbols on signs, instructions for recipes, prescriptions, and product labels.
12. Find information in documents (bills, paystubs)
13. Know the sounds of letters and combinations and read with intonation and expression.
14. Answer simple yes and no questions.
15. Use simple present, present continuous, simple past, and future.
16. Use prepositions of location, adverbs of frequency, possessive adjectives, subject pronouns, singular/plural count and non-count nouns, and conjunctions.
