Grading Philosophy

Students’ grades will be determined by their performance on a series of projects and assessments. Each project and assessment will have an individual standards-based rubric measuring each student’s completion of different Next Generation Science Standards and/or GILLS.

4 = "I've got it, and MORE...."

3 = "I've got it!"

2 = "I've almost got it"

1 = "I don't have it yet...but I'm trying"

0 = "No effort"

Students’ rubric scores will be averaged at the end of the grading period. Here is the breakdown of rubric averages to grade equivalents:

A+ = 3.81-4.0

A = 3.41-3.8

A- = 3.21-3.4

B+ = 3.01-3.2

B = 2.61-3.0

B- = 2.41-2.6

C+ = 2.21-2.4

C = 1.81-2.2

C- = 1.61-1.8

D+ = 1.41-1.6

D = 1.01-1.4

D- = 0.81-1.0

F = 0.0-0.8

***Please keep in mind that pluses and minuses do NOT affect a student's GPA. They are only used to show how close a student is to a higher or lower grade.

REVISIONS

We value a student’s grit and perseverance. Our grades are based on a student’s ability to show effort, growth, and mastery. With that said, if a student is not satisfied with his or her grade on an assessment, he or she may revise it provided that they did the required leg work in advance. In other words, only students who adequately complete classwork and homework are entitled to revise their work.

***Students will only have 1 week to revise an assignment from the day it is passed back to them.
