The purpose of the tutoring program is to create a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment where students build academic skills, confidence, independence, and positive relationships with tutors, who act as both academic guides and role models. Tutors focus on helping students learn how to think rather than just giving answers by using active listening, encouragement, open-ended questions, and age-appropriate communication that emphasizes effort, growth, and understanding. Instruction follows the “I Do, We Do, You Do” model, where skills are modeled, practiced together, and then completed independently, with tasks broken into manageable steps and supported through examples, visuals, and engaging activities. The program also prioritizes positive behavior, clear expectations, professionalism, and respect, while using relationship-building, games, and student interests to make learning enjoyable and meaningful. Ultimately, tutoring is successful when students leave feeling supported, respected, and more confident in their ability to learn and grow independently.
