About Mrs. Ford...
Hello, fifth grade students and families! I am so excited for another great year at Visitation! Our classroom will be a place of kindness, laughter, and lots of learning!
Teaching and working with children has always been a passion of mine. It truly brings me joy and is good for my soul! From the time I was able to work, my jobs always involved children.
I earned my degree in Elementary Education from Penn State University- Main Campus. While I was there, I taught small group lessons in a third grade classroom in the State College School District. Coincidentally, my student teaching placement all the way from PSU was in a fourth grade classroom at Paul V. Fly Elementary School. I guess I was meant to teach in Norristown!
After graduating, I was a fourth grade teacher in the Allentown School District. I moved to Florida for sunny weather and taught sixth grade for one year. When Mr. Ford decided to pursue his MBA from the University of Notre Dame, we moved to South Bend, Indiana, where I taught fifth grade for two years.
During my years at home with my children, I fulfilled my passion to teach by leading children's art parties and by facilitating the Science Explorers program at Visitation. I also coached Visitation Pee Wee sports teams. I try to stay current on the best educational practices by reading publications and I am now participating in professional development courses.
I recognize that teaching is an art, and I take the science of teaching very seriously. I believe that teachers must use research-based strategies and student data to plan lessons. In our classroom, we will have a daily blend of lessons that help all types of learners. We are going to do a lot of reading and take written notes in every subject, but we will also have fun with hands-on activities, games, and projects.
Visitation BVM families are the best and I am so blessed to be one of them! My husband and I have been parishioners since 2011, and my five children are students here. When I am not at Visitation, I love to spend time at the beach and at the lake. I love country music, a good family dinner, going for walks, and reading. I can't wait to meet the new fifth graders and to watch them grow spiritually, emotionally, socially, and academically.
