For STAAR, STAAR Alt 2, and TELPAS, there are three different terms that you need to be familiar with so that you know who will receive which supports. At any time you can view TEA's Accommodation Resources Page here.
👉Accessibility Features: These are procedures and materials that are allowed for any student who needs them. They are built into the online tests for all students. You can view more information on the accessibility features here.
👉Designated Supports: These are locally-approved supports for students who meet eligibility criteria. Each designated support has different criteria on who is eligible and how that eligibility must be documented.
Supplemental Aids (examples can be found at the bottom of this page)
👉Designated Supports Requiring TEA Approval: These supports require the submission and approval using the Accommodation Request Process below. These are VERY rare. If you believe that one of these will be needed, you must contact Chantilly Sweet ASAP!
👉Supplemental Aid Examples: These were retrieved from the Accommodation Central website. For these to be used, they must be documented in the appropriate place. These are not available for all students or all tests.
Frequently Misspelled Words List: This list is to be created per student. There is not a "generic" one available.
Below is a chart showing which accommodations (designated supports) can be used based upon the academic committee serving the student. Keep in mind, that just because a student may be SPED, does not mean they automatically get content and language supports...it still needs to be indicated in the proper paperwork to be used.
Helpful Websites for Accommodations
The District & Campus Coordinator Resources (DCCR) site is maintained by TEA and will be the most up to date. You can find a variety of things in this site, but mainly you will probably be looking for the accommodation info. The search bar (top right) is extremely helpful.
*If you want the most up to date info from TEA, this is the site you will want to check first. If you are looking for some examples and other helpful ways to use accommodations, use Accommodation Central.
Accommodation Central is a website created and maintained by Region 13. On this site, you can search a variety of accommodations and get specific information on what tools to use and other ways to implement that accommodation in your classroom.
They also have some helpful examples of different supplemental aids. Click here to view those options.
*Use this site to dig deeper into accommodations for more info and even some examples of how to teach them. This site is not updated as quickly as the DCCR so use that one for your most up to date source of info.
