WHAT IS THE TSIA2 TEST?
The Texas Success Initiative Assessment, better know as the TSIA2 test, is a program which determines the appropriate level of college course work for an incoming student. The TSIA test consists of two separate exams: Mathematics and Reading/Writing. The TSIA is a PLACEMENT test, NOT an entrance exam!
YOU MUST PASS THE READING/WRITING TSIA TEST IN ORDER TO TAKE DUAL CREDIT ENGLISH CLASSES & PASS THE MATH TSIA TEST IN ORDER TO TAKE DUAL CREDIT COLLEGE ALGEBRA!
Texas Success Initiative Exemptions
The following tests can be used to exempt you from one of more parts of the TSI Assessment:
SAT
A minimum score of 530 on the Mathematics test for TSI exemption in math (no combined score required);
A minimum score of 480 on the Evidence-Based Reading & Writing (EBRW) for a TSI exemption in both reading and writing (no combined score required)
Students must attend college within five (5) years from the date of the SAT test in order to use the scores for an exemption.
ACT
If ACT was taken prior to February 2023:
A student must first achieve a minimum composite score of 23 with:
At least 19 on math for an exemption in math and/or
At least a 19 on English for an exemption in reading and writing
If ACT was taken after February 2023:
An ELAR Score (English + Reading) of 40 or higher
A Math score of 22 or higher
(NO miminum composite score)
Students must attend college within five (5) years from the date of the test in order to use the scores for an exemption.
Before you take the TSIA2, you will need to complete the Pre-Assessment Activity.
