・ Job description

General restaurant business (food and beverage preparation, customer service, store management) and store management


・Requirements

Must have two years of work experience as a person (assistant manager, sub-manager, etc.) assisting in store management at a restaurant licensed under the Food Sanitation Law while supervising and guiding multiple part-time employees and foreign nationals with specified skills in the foodservice industry. Also, applicants must have passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (N3 or above).


Qualifications for the examination

(a) Must be at least 17 years old on the date of the examination.

(b) Hold a passport issued by a foreign government or a competent regional authority designated by the Minister of Justice in a public notice to cooperate in the smooth execution of a past enforcement order.

(c) Have at least two years of work experience as a person who assists in store management by engaging in work including customer service while instructing and supervising multiple part-time employees and specified skilled foreign nationals by the day before the examination.

   

Those who have less than 2 years of work experience must be expected to have more than 2 years of work experience within 6 months from the examination date.


・Examination Level

The standard of the examination is such that about 30% of the examinees will pass the examination without preparation using a study textbook or other materials specific to this examination.

・Examination Subjects

Subjects of Examination 

Hygiene control, food and beverage preparation, general customer service and knowledge related to store operation

Practical skill test (judgment test and planning test)

Judgment test to determine the correct course of action in a given situation using diagrams, illustrations, etc. Planning test to plan necessary work using prescribed formulas, etc.


・Pass/fail criteria

The standard for passing the examination is 65% or more of the total score of the academic and practical examinations.

However, in cases where the passing standard needs to be adjusted according to the implementation method, etc., the competence test administrator shall report to MAFF prior to the implementation of the test.


◎Preparation for Implementation and Points to Consider in the Food and Beverage Manufacturing and Food Service Sectors◎

①When applying for SSW (Specified Skilled Worker-Tokuteigino) No. 2 examination, you will be required to submit a document to OTAFF (Organization for Technology Assessment and Evaluation of Foreign Food Industry Skills) certifying your work experience equivalent to that of a managerial position. The format of the document proving work experience will be provided in the examination implementation guidelines.

②For the time being, only companies can apply for the Specified Trade Skill Test No. 2.

Until preparations are made to allow individuals to apply for the test, applications must be made by companies that intend to hire foreign nationals with the specified skills for Type 2.
