Born in Tel Aviv in 1976, Leor Maltinski began playing the violin at age six. While a student of Igor Polesitsky in Florence, Italy from 1985-93, he exhibited an extraordinary gift that caught the attention of the Italian musical establishment and public alike and enabled him to commence an early concert career. His appearances on national television and in a number of Italian cities comprised programs ranging from all Bach solo violin recitals to sonata evenings and concertos with orchestra and received acclaim for their musical maturity and virtuosity uncommon for a young player.
In 1993, he moved to the United States to continue his musical education first at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and then at Indiana University in Bloomington where he received an Artist Diploma, Bachelor's Degree, and Master's Degree under the guidance of Nelli Shkolnikova. He subsequently studied with Dorothy DeLay and Masao Kawasaki at the Juilliard School, and with Herbert Greenberg at the Peabody Conservatory of Music.
He won the "Jasha Heifetz" and the Starling Foundation Scholarship Awards at Indiana University and became a prizewinner of the "Paganini" (Genova, 1995) and the "M. Long- J. Thibaud" (Paris, 1996) International Violin Competitions. The First Prize of the Carl Nielsen International Violin Competition (Special Edition New York City) that he won in 1999 bolstered his international solo career and allowed him to present numerous violin recitals and perform with orchestras throughout the U.S. and Europe. He is able to offer his public a wide range of repertoire which includes all major and some lesser known violin concertos, the most important works for violin solo, many baroque, romantic and contemporary sonatas for violin and piano, and a vast variety of virtuoso pieces.
Mr. Maltinski is a member of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. He is frequently invited to participate in international music festivals both as soloist and as an ensemble player.
