Herzlich Willkommen!
Welcome to your child's German Course! Below are some tips and tricks of how you can best support your child in this online course.
Herzlich Willkommen zum Deutschunterricht! Welcome to German! I look forward to meeting you and having a great year together!
To briefly introduce myself; my name is Frau Sarah Floyd. I was born and raised in Germany, and moved to the States as a teenager. After High School I came to SC to study at the University of South Carolina. I received my BA in German with a minor in Spanish from USC and continued my studies at USC to complete a Masters in the Art of Teaching German. I finished a second Masters in Education from Columbia College. I am certified to teach GT, Honors, IB and AP courses. This is my 19th year teaching German and my 8th year at VirtualSC.
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my wonderful family; my husband and two daughters. We are an active family and enjoy spending time outside hiking, playing tennis, running, or swimming as well as doing kickboxing and karate. I love to travel, read, and do crafts, such as painting, cross-stitching, or scrapbooking.
I am very passionate about teaching the German language and culture. It is such great fun to learn a new language and to explore different cultures. In your German course you will learn how to express yourself and talk about a variety of topics relevant to you as well as discover different habits, traditions, and perspectives.
I have no doubt whatsoever that this will become a successful, fun, and interesting year for German. I so look forward to working with you and I am excited about a wonderful year.
Always remember, I am here to help you as you move through this course. If you have questions you can contact me directly by calling, texting using Remind or emailing through the student dashboard and I will respond ASAP.
Mit freundlichen Grüßen,
Frau Floyd

Herzlich Willkommen zum Deutschunterricht! Welcome to your German course!
I’m Frau Bondor and am looking forward to spending a year with you, learning the German language and culture. I grew up in South Carolina and loved German in high school. When my teacher encouraged me to spend my junior year as an exchange student in Germany, I had no idea how much it would impact my life. Speaking German opened many doors for me professionally and personally: studying at a German university, teaching in Argentina, spending two summers in Berlin, working at an American School in Istanbul, Turkey, and connecting with many new friends.
No matter how much I travel, I feel at home in South Carolina, and have taught in several counties here – Aiken, Richland One (IB and AP) and Richland Two (IB). Although I have taught German for over 20 years, this is my first year teaching at SC Virtual. I’m excited to connect with students from all over the state.
In my free time, I enjoy traveling, reading, working out, yoga and movies. I love being outside in nature – at the beach, in the mountains or just outside on the porch.
Sharing my love of the German language and culture with students is always fun. Seeing my students learn and succeed inspires me. Always remember, I am here to support you as you move through the course. If you have any questions, you can contact me directly by calling, texting using Remind or emailing me through the Student Dashboard.
Bis bald!

Your child is absolutely free to work ahead, falling behind, however should be avoided and can hurt your child's overall success in the course.
This is a linear course, assignments must be completed in order from start to finish.
This course is not truly flexible and it is not a self paced course.

Your child is absolutely free to work ahead, falling behind, however should be avoided and can hurt your child's overall success in the course.
This is a linear course, assignments must be completed in order from start to finish. No skipping around! The course is locked own and the next activity opens up only after the before is successfully completed.
A pacing guide is a schedule of all due dates. At the beginning of the course your child will have due dates Wednesday and Sunday, and as we progress through the course and slow down some, due dates will always fall on Sunday. All work is due midnight on Sunday.
We do not follow the traditional school schedule, so your child will have due dates even on holidays and/or breaks.
Here are some tips for success your child should follow:
Your child should submit work by the due dates listed on the pacing guide (pacing guides are linked under each level and can also be found in the course under Course Overview & Introduction).
Your child should expect to spend 1-2 hours each day in the course in order to keep up with the pacing guide.
Your child can work ahead, however, he/she should not fall behind.
Please note: Not logging in and making progress can result in your child being dropped from the course.
Live sessions are highly recommended in many of VirtualSC’s World Languages courses. These sessions provide your child with an opportunity to practice material covered and develop proficiency in speaking the language, which is an integral part of second language acquisition.
If your child should have to miss an instructional live session he/she should be viewing the recording of the session to still benefit from what was reviewed and practiced.
Your child should be using the pacing guide and live sessions schedule to plan ahead! All due dates and live sessions are listed! Your child can always work ahead and complete assignments early. Definitely ALWAYS COMMUNICATE! PLAN AHEAD! Contact me ahead of time, if you know there is a conflict. If something comes up and it is an extenuating circumstance you must contact me and we will go from there.

Students who have been withdrawn for any reason, except withdrawals due to Academic Integrity or Code of Conduct Violations, can be reinstated within 7 calendar days of the withdrawal date with a request for reinstatement from their sponsoring School Counselor along with a submitted Course Reinstatement Plan (follow link below to access the template). The request, along with the Reinstatement Plan should be emailed to both the teacher and the Student Services Team at virtualsc@ed.sc.gov. Note: A Reinstatement Plan submitted for a summer course may be submitted with only a student and parent signature.
The initial day of withdrawal will start the seven-day timeline for request submission. In other words, the withdrawal date is day 1 of the 7 calendar days. After 7 calendar days from the date of the withdrawal, the student will no longer be reinstated into a course for any reason and will need to re-enroll in the course in a future enrollment period. Students are allowed one reinstatement per course per term.
Students submitting a reinstatement plan that requires revision must submit the revised reinstatement plan, per the teacher's feedback and instruction, within 48 hours. Revised plans submitted beyond the 48 hour deadline will not be considered for reinstatement.
Students withdrawn from more than one course for inactivity must submit one reinstatement plan per course.
Students who have been withdrawn by their sponsoring School Counselor may request reinstatement into a course by contacting their School Counselor directly, who will ask for the reinstatement on behalf of the student. School Counselors may request to have a student reinstated into any course within 7 calendar days of the student's withdrawal from the course. After 7 calendar days the student will no longer be reinstated into a course and will need to re-enroll in a future enrollment period.
Reinstatement will not be permitted within three weeks of the final exam, with the exception of yearlong (Sept-May) courses that will discontinue reinstatement eligibility in mid-January.

All VirtualSC initial credit courses require a proctored final exam. VirtualSC final exams will be given during the times scheduled according to the Dates & Deadlines guide for each enrollment session. Students requesting to take a final exam early must meet the following requirements:
Must have a grade of 80% or higher in the course.
Cannot have any zeros on any assignments in the course.
Must have approval from the course's teacher.
Public school and private school students will be proctored as arranged by their sponsor school. Proctors must be a South Carolina certified teacher, media specialist, school counselor or administrator. The date, time and location for the final exam will be selected by the sponsor school and will (unless you are notified otherwise) correspond to the exam dates listed in the Dates & Deadlines guide. Alternative exam arrangements must be approved by the sponsor school (different time, location, proctor, etc.). Students may find information regarding final exam arrangements for their school by accessing the Final Exam Instructions page. Please note that this information is self-reported by each school and the most accurate source of information regarding final exam dates/time/locations is the student's sponsoring school. Students should contact their sponsor schools upon enrollment in the case that there any concerns about the scheduled exam dates.
Home school students or their parent/guardians are responsible for securing an appropriate proctor to facilitate the final exam. Exam proctors must hold a South Carolina Educator Certificate, and cannot be related to the student taking the exam. To receive approval for an exam proctor, please submit the Proctor Verification Form to VirtualSC. Upon approval, VirtualSC will contact the proctor with final exam instructions. Alternatively, a home school student or their parent/guardian may contact a local public or private school to request a seat during their proctored exams. If a school is willing to accommodate the request, the student will take their final exam on the date and time provided by the school.
Students experiencing difficulty in arranging for their final exams may discuss ProctorU (an online live proctoring service) as a testing option with their counselor or sponsor school. ProctorU is a private company and charges a fee for their services. Students utilizing this resource should notify their school prior to booking the date online.
This is a performance based course. Only work, where your child has showcased what he/she has learned count towards the final grade.
