In this unit students will be investigating the impact we, as part of a very large ecosystem, impact Earth's environment. The unit is broken two several parts: components of an ecosystem and how they operate, and pollution issues including acid rain and oil spills. We will explore the causes and effects of various types of pollution, and solutions to these problems.
Testing the Effects of Acids: Students will be required to bring in various objects from home with which to design and then test the effects of different acids.
The Great Acid Rain Debate: After researching and preparing a speech on the effects of acid rain, members of different organizations will give speeches to the International Committee on Acid Rain. They in turn will decide the future of our country and others, due to the effects of acid rain.
Can An Oil Spill Really Be Cleaned? Students will run through a simulation of an actual oil spill, encountering all the devastating effects on animals, and the surrounding natural environment surrounding an oil spill.
