What homework will my child bring home?
~Written homework will be given Monday through Thursday.
~Weekly ELA homework will be given out each Monday. It should be completed in the Homework Journal. One sheet of math homework will be given out daily. It is strongly recommended all homework be written neatly in pencil.
~All homework is a reinforcement of what is being studied in class.
~Written homework should take about 10 minutes to complete. If it is taking much longer, please contact me.
Should I help my child with homework?
~It is highly recommended your child work in a quiet spot.
~If your child wants to complete homework independently, then it should be checked over after it is completed.
~Any mistakes made should be corrected by your child.
~If the homework requires writing sentences, your child should do the best he/she can when spelling unknown words. You can write the correct spelling underneath. There should correct capitalization, spacing, and punctuation in all sentences.
What about the Take Home Books?
~Books comes home each week beginning in October. Your child will have new books on Monday and Wednesday.
~Your child keeps the books for two days to work on fluency.
~Use the reading strategy bookmark and comprehension questions in the bag to assist your child. Books are not meant to be challenging. They should be read by your child with a fair amount of independence. Your child needs to be able to decode and comprehend the book independently before getting harder books.
