Extra Credit

I strongly encourage families to take advantage of the many opportunities to visit museums and historical sites that relate to seventh grade social studies. These sites offer visual and hands-on experiences that can truly make history come alive!

Each quarter, students will have the opportunity to visit an appropriate historical site and to complete one extra credit mini-project. (A list of potential sites is available on the "Exploring Local History" section of this website, but feel free to visit other appropriate sites.)

A successful project will be added as a separate 15 point quiz grade.

Requirements are as follows:

• The student must visit the site during that quarter. First quarter projects may include places visited over the previous summer.
• The site must relate to American history up to and including the Civil War.
• The student must include a typed write-up of at least one page. The write-up should include a description of the place, an explanation of the place's historical significance, and the student's own reflection on what he or she learned.
• The student should also attach/incorporate pictures of him or herself at the site.
