Reading Genres and Projects
This year, your child will be required to read an entire book in a certain genre every 6-8 weeks. Your child can choose a book at their just-right level. We will help them find a book at the school if they need assistance. At the beginning of the new genre, we will also send out a list of book suggestions at a variety of levels for the genre, as well as a description of the corresponding project. The expectation is that your child is reading for 30 minutes a day at home. They will have additional time to read in class most days. Please help your child manage their time so that they can complete their book with enough time to then work on their project.
If your child finishes their book well before the end of the month, please encourage them to read another book in the genre. They still need to be reading 30 minutes a day to build their stamina, vocabulary, and reading skills. There will be two books/projects completed each trimester of the school year.
