Laurel Application for the 2024-2025 School Year.pdf

For students interested in applying at Laurel High School, there are four steps: first is an informational meeting in January for prospective students and their parents; the application period for interested students typically takes place in February; the applicants' interviews, which typically occur in March or April, and the parent-new student informational meeting typically happens at the end of the school year.

Laurel High School has applications available to download for the upcoming school year. Applications for all grade levels will be accepted; however, available slots may be limited by grade level.  It is important to note that there may be only one application period. To receive an application, please contact Renee Baker by phone at 637-1614, or by email, bakren@viroquablackhawk.org, to have one mailed or emailed to you.

The informational meeting letter/packet is available to download (see above)

The application is available to download (see above)

Applications are due in February for the following school year (see calendar for specific due date).

Laurel High School is a charter school that, while being its own entity, is also part of the Viroqua Area School District. It offers an alternative educational choice for non-traditional and often college-bound high school students in grades 9-12.  The typical Laurel High School student is a self-motivated learner who desires challenges and active learning opportunities. We are located in the Viroqua High School in the level above the gymnasium.

If you have any questions, please call or email Renee Baker at the contact information above.

Prospective students must follow the following application process:

Applications may be picked up from Laurel High School or Viroqua High School offices. They also may be downloaded (see above). The application consists of an admission form, self-evaluation of academic performance form, extracurricular inventory, and student and parent essays. Along with the application, two letters of recommendation should be included, as well as a portfolio. The portfolio should be a collection of items that will help the interviewers understand who the applicant is, personally and academically.

Accepted applicants are notified as soon as possible and invited to an informational meeting, traditionally held before the school year ends. Typically, there is only one application period. Laurel High School is a public high school, part of the Viroqua Area School District, and therefore there is no fee to attend.
