Economic instability and urban expansion resulted in a lack of initial permanent football grounds for the team,
however, the following four locations are believed to be the initial football grounds in the early 1900s:
1899-1900 The former cycle track grounds at Bonanova (today, next to Turó Park)
1900-1901 The Hotel Casanovas grounds (today, Hospital de Sant Pau)
1901-1905 Carretera d’Horta grounds
1905-1909 Carrer de Muntaner grounds
Barcelona entered a period of decline during the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939). Political conflict overshadowed sports, and attendance at matches plummeted as the citizens of Barcelona became preoccupied with political turmoil. With Catalonia under occupation, the club also faced numerous restrictions. As a symbol of Catalan resistance, FC Barcelona suffered under Francisco Franco’s dictatorship. The use of Catalan language, flags, and any signs of regional nationalism were banned, forcing the club to change its name to Club de Fútbol Barcelona and to remove the Catalan flag from its crest.
