Books

The books used within the HIM program may change regularly as new editions are released.  To determine the books needed for your courses at the current time, please use the Vincennes University Bookstore link below.  Once there, you can search for your current course(s).

Should I keep my books?

While you are ultimately in control of what you choose to do with your books, we do recommend hanging onto them until you take your RHIT or CCA exam.  Having your books available to serve as a resource will be extremely beneficial as you prepare for your exam.

Do my books need to be new?

Always double-check the bookstore listing or syllabus for each course to determine if used copies of the book are acceptable.  There are two books that we currently use that MUST BE PURCHASED NEW:

Will I reuse any of my books?

There are some books and platform access that you will purchase and continue to use throughout your other courses.  Below is a brief overview of those books/programs that you can expect to reuse.  Please check with the bookstore or your instructor to verify any new editions of books.

EHRgo Access

In your HIMT 100 course, you will be asked to purchase access to the EHRgo platform.  EHRgo allows us to simulate working within electronic health records.  You will continue to use this program throughout several of your HIMT courses.  EHRgo offers various different lengths of access at varying prices.  The VU bookstore will only offer semester-based access.  If you are interested in purchasing access that spans a longer period of time, please visit the EHRgo site.

Health Information Management: An Applied Approach

In your HIMT 100 course, you will be asked to purchase the book Health Information Management: An Applied Approach.  This book will be used throughout the entire program and will be a vital resource for prepping for your RHIT exam.  This book should be purchased outright, not rented!  When the book is purchased, it will come with a code to join AHIMA.

It is required that students use this code to join AHIMA as a student member.

VLab Access

In your HIMT 200 course, you will be asked to purchase access to the AHIMA VLab platform.  VLab will be utilized to simulate the coding of patient records.  Access to VLab will be used in HIMT 200 through the end of the program.
