Does our research generalize to and benefit everyone?
This question is especially important in health-related data (and I maintain that pretty much all data are health-related).
I believe the best way to ensure representation is at the study design phase. This was inspired by Dr. Kelsey Grinde when I was an undergrad at Macalester. The project was about genetic studies in populations with mixed ancestry (totally different from my work now).
Maybe what I love the most outside of work (besides family and friends)
I am a travel and aviation enthusiast. My favorite airplane model is A330-900, followed by A321neo.
The arguably craziest thing I have ever done is to fly 176 flights and more than 200,000 miles (223014 miles to be precise, but who is counting) within the US in 2024.
In 2025, I flew 167,050 miles across 150 flights. I don't think I can ever beat my record in 2024 (unless I career switch to becoming a flight attendant, which is probably not anytime soon).
Other facts
I don't know how to bike or swim. (Man, have I not tried to learn :)
My favorite wardrobe choice is aloha shirt/polo shirt + khakis.
I am an enthusiastic Chinese Mahjong and Guan Dan (a card game) player.
