As many of you know, I retired from the Faculty of Science, Yamaguchi University, Japan, on March 31, 2016. After my retirement, I continued my research activities at Yamaguchi University as Professor Emeritus and as a Specially Designated Professor, while maintaining a laboratory for the National BioResource Project Paramecium, until March 31, 2022.

Since then, I have continued my research on a smaller scale as a Visiting Researcher at the Research Center for Thermotolerant Microbial Resources, Yamaguchi University, and as a Visiting Scholar at the Institute of Environmental Radioactivity, Fukushima University, Japan. I also maintain live cultures of Paramecium caudatum syngens at 4°C in a small “home attic lab.”
