Hi Stephen, is there zoom vmware media plugin available for chrome books. Also which version to install for chrome books that it will offload audio/video for Teams. right now the version which is available for chrome book does not offload audio video in teams.

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for the information. Do you know of a way to check if the client has the Zoom VDI plugin installed from within the VM? We use a lot of BYO and want to proactively check if the users have installed the plugin on their desktop.

Zoom Plugin For Vmware Horizon Client Download

I am using 10Zig thin client. The thin client has zoom plugin 5.12.0 installed on it. On my golden image I installed Zoom for VDI 5.12 . When I push them image out and test, Zoom does not see my microphone or camera. If I revert my snaphot to a previous image without zoom installed I can launch zoom meeting through browser and my microphone and camera work. It is terrible quality and unusable but at least it detects the mic/cam. Any ideas on this?

So I guess it comes down to the thin clients being the issue, specifically I think it is Wyse ThinOS. Unfortunately, I cannot find anything about plugins, optimizations or enhancements for Zoom using ThinOS.

We're going to try to upgrade the NVIDIA driver to 11.2 later tonight to see if that helps at all, but we might be looking at purchasing some new thin clients that run Windows 10 IoT vs Dell's ThinOS so we can be running the latest and greatest Horizon client, plus proper Zoom plugin, and have some decent performance.

Edit: Also, to the OP, the Zoom plugin has to be installed on the thin client and not the host. The host VM only needs the Zoom VDI client. As it is, you CANNOT install the Zoom plugin on the Dell ThinOS thin client as there is no version that supports Dell ThinOS. Only Windows, IGEL and HP thin clients. There is no Zoom plugin for Dell ThinOS.

My understanding is that if you're attempting to use zero clients (PCoIP) and zoom you are not going to have any luck with ZoomVideo. Video requires the use of RTAV and PCoIP and as far as i know PCoIP does not work with that. You need to utilize the BLAST protocol and Thin clients. View Software clients will also work with Zoom as they use Blast. Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong as I am attempting to come up with a better video experience for our WFH users who are currently on PCoIP zero clients. We will probably be updating to Thin clients\Blast\RTAV etc. Working with Zoom and no Video is OK and that is currently how we are running.

As @jmacdaddy, suggested, I did bypass the thin clients and used my laptop to hold a zoom meeting through the UAG's. The difference using my laptop over using the thin client was much better, although the video on my laptop was a bit pixelated, there was no freezing, or major video delays.

As @VMVSF pointed out earlier in this thread, the Zoom VMware Media Plugin is installed on the thin client, not on the host OS. And as @Alberte1 pointed out, Dell thin clients with 9.11, now have version 3.3.2 of this plugin pre-installed.

I think they are different binaries. One is "Zoom client for VDI" which needs to be installed in the remote desktop VM, the other is "Zoom media plugin" which needs to be installed in the end point machine(e.g. thin client). Both are needed for an optimized Zoom experience.

I found that Zoom works the same, if not worse than it did before. One thing I did find is if you boot the the client with the webcam connected and start a zoom session, the performance is very laggy, and the camera is not even listed in the Peripherals section of ThinOS.

You can download the most recent version of the Zoom VDI client and plugin from the Zoom site linked below. Click on the version number under the VDI Release column, and that will take you to the download page for that version. On the version download page, you will need to download the Zoom VDI client from the left-hand side of the table and the appropriate plugin under the VMware section on the right-hand side of the table. Pay close attention to downloading the plugin under the VMware section, not the Citrix or Windows Virtual Desktop sections.

Remember when upgrading the plugins, the VDA VDI installer must be at the same version or newer than the plugin on the clients. Suppose the client has a newer plugin installed than the backend VDA VDI install. It will not work the way it is supposed to, and the offloading process will NOT occur. I always find it safe to upgrade the VDI installer first (Citrix VDA), as it will be greater than the Zoom HDX Plugin on the clients. It seems to work well this way. In your case, test things before you deploy.

Webex optimizations require both a client and also a media plugin for the endpoint. The client is installed on the Virtual Machine and the media plugin is installed on the endpoint. You can find both of these downloads on the Webex download section of your account.

Using our WorkSpaces Extension SDK, Zoom has developed a package, currently in beta testing, that includes the VDI client, a host-side installer, the Zoom Media Plugin, a client-side installer. This media plugin securely offloads video encoding and decoding and communicates over the network directly to the Zoom cloud, bypassing the VDI infrastructure. Control information such as authentication and window location is sent over the VDI channel. This first-of-its-kind solution provides end users with an improved video conferencing experience. The Zoom window appears exactly where it normally would inside a WorkSpaces desktop, with all the same functionality, reducing latency to make the videoconference experience seamless. To learn more, reach out to your AWS and/or Zoom account teams to participate in the Zoom Media Plugin beta program.

Hi,

I am part of IT team in our business and I have run into a peculiar problem. Sometimes when users log in to their vm ,which they RDP into through the thin client, and start a zoom call, the other person cant hear them until they disconnect and reconnect to the vm. This doesnt happen to everyone, only a few users, and for some the problem disappeared after they switched USB ports.

Now one user is constantly having this issue, and they are constantly complaining even though the solution is pretty simple and quick. Anyways, I cant pinpoint if its due to the 5070 wyse thinclient config or if its our vmware thats causing this weird disconnect with sound.

To add: Usually you can hear the other person but they can't hear you, it seems to be specifically the mic that doesnt connect. Also, when that issue occurs and you try to open the windows sound settings, it causes the vm to crash.

This is the ThinOS version: Dell ThinOS 2303 (9.4.1141)

Seems to me that's a VMWare/ VMWare Tools issue as in there is something wrong with the VM. Zoom is fairly well optimized if you are installing the Zoom VDI client for VMWare on the VM. I believe you said you applied all the ThinOS updates for VDI plugin support. Assuming you resolved the question whether other VMs run fine on the local hardware, it has to be this particular VM. You may want to consider deploying a new one for this user. ff782bc1db
