About us

The department of Zoology was established in 1982-1983 in SSJDVSSS, Government P.G. College, Ranikhet, Almora, Uttarakhand. The initial level of the department was to give undergraduate degree to the students. Further post-graduate upgradation was done in 2015.  At the graduate level, a BSc degree is provided to the students where along with Zoology, the student studies Botany and Chemistry. Papers covered in under the graduate level chordata and non-chordata, taxonomy, evolution, paleontology, cell biology, genetics, ecology, and environmental biology, molecular biology, microbiology, toxicology, histology, animal physiology, endocrinology, biochemistry, elementary ichthyology, and entomology.  

At the post-graduate level, the department gives a much deeper knowledge about the subject. Paper taught at the post-graduate level are microbiology, non-chordata, ecology, taxonomy and evolutionary biology, molecular biology, cell biology and genetics, mammalian endocrinology, biochemistry, animal physiology, chordata, animal behavior, developmental biology, biotechnology, biostatistics, and computational biology. In the final semester, specialization is provided in fish biology and entomology, students can select either one of them. Further, the dissertation work is also done by the students to have an in-depth knowledge about the topic chosen where they are made familiar with the process of research paper study and literature review. 

Ph.D. Research work is also been done in the department. 4 research students are presently enrolled in research work under the guidance of department professors. College also provides the pre-Ph.D. coursework for the enrolled students as well.
