Quito Zoo
The Quito Zoo (also called Guayllabamba Zoo and Quito Zoo) is the name given to a zoological garden located in the Guayllabamba parish that serves the city of Quito, the capital of Ecuador.
It was inaugurated on August 18, 1997 by the then Mayor Jamil Mahuad and occupies an area of about 12 hectares (0.12 km²). It is managed by the Fundación Zoológica del Ecuador, a non-profit NGO and member of the Latin American Association of Zoological Gardens and Aquariums.
Most of the animals in the zoo are fauna native to Ecuador, however you can also find species from other countries and continents. The Quito Zoo is also a pioneer organization in Ecuadorian wildlife conservation programs. For more information, you can visit the official website www.quitozoo.org.
